In addition to an already challenging year, 2021 has been especially hard for the Raintree family due to the sudden loss of our founder and leader, Richard Welty, who committed suicide on July 21st. Despite the nature of his passing not being common knowledge, we have decided to share this publicly, in an effort to gain much needed awareness for behavioral and mental health initiatives as well as bring attention to the issues of gun violence.

September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) and while we encourage you to watch our educational podcast from 2020, now more than ever we want to highlight the importance of not only being informed but also being proactive in silencing the negative stigmas surrounding anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and any other mental illnesses.

For those that don’t know, Richard’s passion was the product, but his purpose was to make technology accessible to everyone, so that healthcare could be more efficient and affordable. His personal goals to humanize patient/provider experiences have been directly translated into the software Raintree has built as well as significantly influenced our familial company culture and values. He was inherently known for his generosity and humor, so the fact that suicide took his life, will forever be a reminder of how we all need to be kind, slow to judgment and always understanding of people - no matter who they are, how they look, where they come from or what they believe - because we are all real people with real feelings.

As a continued advocate for behavioral/mental health, we want to extend our gratitude to all the family, friends, clients, strategic partners and associates who have supported and comforted us throughout this tragedy. We hope that if you have had the pleasure of meeting or interacting with Richard, that you are able to post a tribute or memory of him on this memorial website we have developed in his honor and that we hope will commemorate his legacy as one of healthcare’s finest innovators.
