Urge CMS to Expand Access to Physical Therapy During the COVID-19 Crisis
As the nation comes to grips with enormous challenges imposed by the COVID-19 outbreak, it is critical to ensure that patients who rely on outpatient therapy services to manage their chronic and acute pain are able to continue receiving these vital services in the safety of their homes through telehealth-based approaches.
In an Interim Final Rule filed this week, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved a new list of services, which are typically provided by physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech language-pathologists, that can be delivered via telehealth. In doing so, CMS acknowledged the potential benefits these services can provide for patients.
