CEO Letter: Looking Ahead at 2024

Raintree Systems CEO, Nick Hedges, shares company updates and new initiatives, outlining the path towards our North Star in 2024.

Dear Valued Client,

Happy New Year from all of us at Raintree Systems. As we mark the significant milestone of our 40th anniversary, I am excited to reach out to you to share many of the exciting developments and initiatives at the company.

As you know, since 2021 Raintree Systems has been under new leadership and embarked upon a refined direction, accelerating the path towards our North Star: “To help therapy professionals to provide better care and achieve superior outcomes for everyone.” Put more simply, we want to find ways to add greater value, more quickly to an ever-increasing percentage of the therapy industry. 

To achieve our mission, we are making significant investments as a business, in people, in technology, and in our approach. Let’s start with our people. Over the past year, we focused on bringing in expertise from the wider software industry and broader healthcare industry to augment our current team, which is deeply specialized in therapy in general and Raintree’s platform in particular. The intention here is that we follow the same practices that have enabled the most successful software companies in the world to achieve breakout results for their clients. In all, we have increased our people investments by 13% in 2023 and expect an increase in 2024 of 32%. We have not only brought in a new executive management team but have also invested and will continue to invest in hiring and training exceptional talent in every area of the business, from the technology team to the client support and professional services organization. 

Another area in which we are keenly focused is our technology platform. We are very proud of the capabilities of our software. We are the undisputed leader in the therapy market, and it is widely known that no other platform comes close to offering the deep functionality that Raintree does. I regularly hear from clients that Raintree is the platform that a therapy business joins once they want a system that they will never need to replace. We are a true all-in-one system, which means that not only can Raintree uniquely tie together all of the data and insights necessary to manage a therapy business but we also have the depth of configuration required to capture the nuances and complexity of a sophisticated business. Furthermore, we are the only EMR built for therapy that is ONC-certified, meaning that Raintree’s clients are poised to meet the newly-reinforced MIPS Promoting Interoperability requirement of certified EHR adoption, giving them an advantage in the pursuit of positive payment adjustment—and over competitors who use uncertified specialty EMRs. 

All this to say, it is a mark of success in the industry when a company graduates to our platform. We are very proud of that, but also very conscious that this is a position that we must build upon in a variety of areas. 

First, we will continue to make very substantial investments in our platform. Indeed, this year, Raintree will spend 25% of our revenues on R&D alone, a much greater investment than software platforms typically make. This is because we want to accelerate our strategic product roadmap to quickly bring new value-enhancing capabilities such as Credentialing, MIPS 2024 Support, Raintree Interoperability Exchange, Clinical Best Practice Guidance, and a new generation Portal Prime solution to our customers. We also want to modernize our platform over time substantially, overhauling the look and feel (also known as the User Interface, or UI) and the underlying technologies that Raintree is built on. We’re certainly not rewriting the entire platform but, to use a real estate analogy, we are remodeling one room at a time.

Regarding our approach, we’ve recognized that we can provide better leadership in several areas. We are the platform that the fastest growing, most ambitious, and largest therapy practices choose to run their business. In working with you all, Raintree has developed a huge amount of expertise in terms of best practices, from optimizing efficiency to ensuring that you comply with the ever-changing regulatory environment without fail. Going forward we intend to produce more thought leadership and offer greater guidance to our clients, sharing best practices in the industry and how to optimize your organizations to deliver better care to more patients. You will see this approach in full force at our overhauled and enhanced conference this year, TherapyCon. We will be convening in Las Vegas from March 6th-8th and have developed an agenda that will go far beyond educating Raintree users, and will be packed with content that will enhance participants’ approach to their business, invigorate their individual performance, and strengthen networks within the industry. We are also rewiring the company to simultaneously deliver more reliable enhancements to our product and better service to our clients. We recognize that this is a work in progress. Traditionally our clients have worked with a variety of different disciplines within Raintree to achieve their goals, and we are now trying to funnel every interaction through our client success organization led by Megan MacLean. This is a sensitive transition that requires a great deal of internal training, improved processes and systems, and some investments in people. I know that transformations such as these aren’t without growing pains and we acknowledge this has been felt by some of our clients. However, this year you will see a client-facing presence from Raintree that is more knowledgeable, responsive, and valuable than you have ever experienced.

Overall, at the beginning of this new year, I’d like to thank you for your trust in us. At Raintree, we have a history and culture of putting our clients first. It is deep in our DNA to see our success only as a mirror of our clients’ successes. What motivates us is our clients’ prosperity. We look towards 2024 with excitement about continued partnership with you and a determination to make this another successful year for our clients.
