Raintree User Experience: The New Standard All Other EMRs Will Strive For? It’s True!

AI changes the paradigm for therapy EMRs. Tara Clem, Chief Product Officer, shares her vision of transformation for the Raintree user experience.
Raintree User Experience: The New Standard for Therapy EMRs

When I joined Raintree as Chief Product Officer in 2024, I immediately saw an incredible opportunity to help redefine the future of the electronic medical record (EMR) system for the rehabilitation and physical therapy industry. And it all starts with the user experience.

Let’s be honest: When it comes to UX, the bar is low in the field of healthcare, and certainly in PT. Technology moves so fast and has permeated almost all consumer experiences. People expect the same interactions they have with Alexa, Uber, Instagram, and Venmo that they do with their healthcare providers. The same holds true with staff. Sophisticated functionality can be overshadowed by antiquated interfaces just as easily as modern interfaces can mask inefficient or missing functionality. The question I lead with is, “Why can’t we build the best of both worlds?”

As claim denials continue to rise while reimbursements steadily decline, the need for a solution that minimizes the need for overly complicated and expensive software has never been more urgent. In conversations with practice leaders, addressing staff retention is at the forefront. The time for an intuitive, efficient, outcomes-driven interface is now.

To address this need, strong partnerships between therapy professionals and the systems that underpin their success will be critical. As we look to the future, Raintree is making a choice to transform the EMR / EHR experience from the inside out.

Investing in Best-in-Class UX

Traditionally, the most effective EHRs have excelled at documenting care—but not always at improving the user’s day-to-day experience. As Nick Hedges, our CEO, put it recently, “Therapists didn’t invest in years of education just to type notes into an EMR!”

As the longest-tenured EMR company in the industry, our depth of experience and understanding of this industry stands alone. Raintree’s deep roots mean we truly know what it takes for small practices to grow into large practices.  As we look to 2025 and beyond, user-centric design is a central priority of Raintree’s product vision.

But what does that really mean and how will we do it? First, we’re investing heavily in best-in-class market research and new talent to focus on product design.

I’ve seen firsthand how impactful great software design can be when it prioritizes the people using it. At the core, everything we build will be designed to deliver the greatest impact on the real-world needs and desired outcomes of our users. And here’s what’s most exciting: our vision for this transformation goes beyond aesthetics.

Raintree ultimately aims to redefine what an EHR is and what it can be for the industry.

EHRs should not require steep learning curves or extensive training. Instead, they should be tools that therapists and staff can pick up on any device and use immediately with confidence. And while intuitive design is critical, Raintree ultimately aims to redefine what an EHR is and what it can be for the industry.

Let’s dig into that, a bit.

Innovation Enabled by AI, Rooted in Therapy

One of the most exciting aspects of Raintree’s vision for the future of the therapy EMR is the transformative potential of AI. Our recent acquisition of Yoomi Health is an important step forward in delivering the industry’s first and only AI-centric EMR.

AI enables us to reimagine the EHR experience entirely. For example, predictive analytics can inform clinical decision-making for better outcomes, while natural language processing can simplify documentation by translating spoken notes into structured data.

At Raintree, we are already making strides toward this reality. This includes investing in top-tier talent, adopting new methodologies and processes with efficient feedback loops, and embedding proactive leadership into every aspect of our product development.

The industry is ready for a huge paradigm shift, and we take our leadership position seriously. We believe our product roadmap is not just going to redefine rehab therapy EHRs, but ambulatory EHRs entirely.

Raintree User Experience: The Future of the Therapy EMR

True innovation doesn’t happen in isolation—it grows from understanding the challenges our clients face, and anticipating the opportunities ahead.

That’s why it’s so important that our roots in this industry run deep.

With decades of experience, this company has a passion for helping our clients grow into large, thriving businesses. It’s by integrating the insights of clients, partners, and industry leaders that we can deliver on a product roadmap that perfectly aligns with market expectations.

It’s this commitment to putting clients first that makes Raintree the ideal place to reimagine what a therapy EMR can be—and should be.
